Update: When someone develops a typo of your domain

This is a quick update from yesterdays post, “When someone develops a site on a typo of your domain”. I am going to follow the advice of some of my readers and even my friends offline. Ironically the guy upped his offer by 700% to a wooping $40.  What I have come to realize is that a lot of people especially in developing countries are still in the dark when it comes to domain secondary market. While at first glance, his offers have looked like insults but they were actually not intended to be. Some reasoning behind such asinine offers could be attributed to the fact that they figure if you bought the domain for say 10 bucks then at 40 bucks you have made 300% profit. Crazy but true.

I have politely told the individual to expect his emails being ignored henceforth if he continues with lowball offers. Do I think my domain is important to him? the answer is a resounding YES. Do I think he will be the eventual buyer of this domain. The answer is a resounding NO. He just does not seam to have the finances. I have evaluated his situation and this domain is far more important to him than he can ever imagine. There is already a player on the field and the only way he can ever dream of competing and eventually dominating  this other player is with my domain. Without my domain, he is like a candle in the rain.

For giggles, prior to writing the post yesterday, I had toyed with the idea of duplicating his site 100% including the logo he made which by the way is my domain spelt right and not his typo. I would have also lifted all his listings and I was wondering how he would have felt then.

In summary, I am not going to advance in reaction. I will stick to my original plan which is wait for the right buyer for they too will come. However should I decide to develop the site, it will be because I want to and not because I want to kick somebody’s bum.
