The Big News I Promised for January 2nd!
A couple of week ago, I did an unbiased review on AEIOU.com, a popular mini-site creator. There was a lot of feedback and response from my readers. Notably, I was schooled on the significance of the meaning of the domain name.
One other thing I noticed was that a lot of mini-site designer kept telling me how they could have done better or cheaper or how the site was not worth the $250 I paid. All these comments were irrespective of the fact that I was very satisfied with the job I got. To read the review click here
It was on the same post that NameCake advised; “…… Have you thought of just focusing on one or possibly two sites and turning them into a major destination?”
All this got me thinking and thinking hard. Based on what NameCake said above, I re-branded OverseasContractDotcom and it is now a fully fledged Job Portal. It is now the go-to place for people looking for jobs Overseas.
Now back to the post before I got distracted, I started thinking what if we had a place where mini-site providers and freelance designers alike can come together and offer there services in a fun way. I know such service already exists but non I know specifically caters to domainers. As domainers we have our language and what we want done.
What will I call such a site? Remember how this all started? Well I decided to name the site Vowels.me
Update 7 January 2009
Vowels.me is now DNoptimizers.com
Why Vowels.me?
- We already settled on why Vowels so I am guessing the question is really why .me?
- Lets face it, the .com was taken
- The .com and .net are non competing to my desired use of the domain
- We are domainers, Even though we may be appalled by the .me extension, the fact still remains that we are the only niche of people who know .me
- On a street test, most people remembered the whole name once the .me extension was explained to them.
- Being one of the first few .me sites out there, I believe this will give it a bounce.
- I can spell V o w e l s
See some of our banners. If you are a supporter please feel free to place the banner or a link of Vowels.me on your site. I will reciprocate the link on Vowels. me
Now help us spread the word. The first 50 service buyers to sign up get $5 deposited into there account. It currently cost nothing to list a project. But in future we will have to make it a dollar to post a project. This is to reduce spam since no one will pay a dollar to spam you. Commission is only 5% which is charged to the provider (coder or designer)
Get something done, visit Vowels.me today

Remember this qoute all year. Have a spectacular new year everyone.

Overseascontract.com looks great. Nice job on re-branding that site. I’ll be honest though, I’m not a big fan of the name Vowels.me. Or for that matter, even Vowels.com (if you had that name) for this type of portal. Now, we’re not big believers in SEO (the same way we feel about DOmain Name Appraisal Services).. We believe if you build a great destination or idea, the traffic will come. But Vowels.me? Then again, we don’t have a lot of experience, but at first glance it just seems you’d be far better off with a .com and at least something that described the service a little better. Guy Kawasaki builds and launches sites off of hand regge’d domains like AllTOp.com. OUr thoughts are you’ve spent the time to build a great site, maybe you just need to change the URL. Either way, nice work and Happy New Year
Very interesting post – i should follow my own advice and stop getting distracted with smaller projects.
Good to see the updates and i love the idea behind vowels.me – i’m not sure about the name though. Still i’ll mention what you’re doing in my next blog post as i think you could be onto something here.
I like both of them — alot! And, definitely feel the need for a domainer specific development community.
OverseasContract looks great! I agree that Vowels.me could be better though…I own OptimizeDomainName.com – if you are interested…
Kelly,
Thanks for the suggestion and offer.
Unfortunately, when I was in the market for a name. I only wanted a single word– Dont ask me why.
I still believe due to the niche all the name needs to be is be memorable.
Lets look at multi-million dollar companies, yes I do not have there advertising dollar but some of them started just like this.
It is:
CocaCola not Soda
Google not Search
Amazon not Store or webstore or whatever you like o call that one.
GoDaddy not Domain or name
Budweiser not Bear
Fabulous not Parking
ebay not auction
Sedo not ?
I have also been spanked on the search engine by names that have nothing to do with the niche just because they had content. Now I wish I had something great but this is what I have got and I think it is memorable enough.
This is a very interesting idea – It shall certainly put more competition in the development side of the industry which I think we need.
I shall certainly be using this to have some of site developed.
Best Of Luck!
Regards,
Robbie
Happy new year Frankie and congratulations on the 2 enterprises.
What no one is seeing or commenting is that Vowels clearly seems to be your take on aeiou
All the best.
@Nameissue… actually, I think we all picked up on that believe it or not. Rick’s site gets alot of website traffic and attention, so it’s alot easier and cheaper for him to brand and market AEIOU.com.
@Frankie: I like that you’re trying to use a unique name, I just think you’re gonna be spending alot more time and money trying to explain to people what Vowels.me is. Especially by using the .me extension. I think it’s a fantastic idea, but it’s a little far down on the food chain since you don’t own the .com, .net, .org, etc.
Best of luck though!
