Removing NoFollow from Blog

Effective today, I have decided to remove the NoFollow attribute from all comment posted here at SkyDomains. By default, anyone who includes their URL in the URL/Webpage  field when submitting a comment has the NoFollow attribute automatically attached   to that link. This “theoretically” tells Google and other search engines not to follow that link when determining pagerank and assessing linkbacks from a blog.  Personally I have always frowned at blogs that have the nofollow attribute and I did not even know that mine was one of them (more like complaining about the spec in your neighbours eyes when  you have a log in yours) . It was not until flippingdomainguide.com commented  on one of my posts here and spoke out that I realized my blog was one of those blogs I detest.
There are a couple of pluginsyou can use to remove the nofollow attribute from your blog but the one I used is DoFollow Plugin.  I do not think it is fair to deprive my contributors the one side benefit they get for contributing to SkyDomains. ( Please note. The links above are NOT affiliate links. I have included them as a convenience to my readers and a thank you to FlippingDomainGuide.com for speaking out)

What is your experience with this issue ?

Sweet…let me post a comment and get some juice :)

I think you are right about the change to a certain extent. I know that several people that just post comments for the link juice. On top of that they post links of non-related domains. I would say the no follow is more of a deterrent from bloggers like that.

I am not a page rank specialist so let me ask you a question. By making comments “do follow” will that effect your page rank? Which then leads to the question does page rank matter, hmmm.

lol, I am a rocket scientist.. i make a comment on a dofollow blog and I typo my own domain lol… heres my comment again, please feel free to delete the previous one :-)

Welcome to the club, I agree with you completely about the nofollow bit being mean and selfish lol… ok, maybe that’s a bit strong.. but anyhow, i was just referred to your site because of this post from a domainer friend who is on the fence about becoming a dofollow blog.. I personally think it can add a lot to the blogs as long as you moderate your comments and don’t approve the crap ones.. anyhow, i will stop rambling.. great site you have here and I will be coming back often :-)

  • Chef,
My blog as you know is moderated so there is absolutely no reason for me to have NoFollow. Even when I had the nofollow I often delete comments to my blogs that are irrelevant. Comments like “I agree with you, please tell me more” I get comments like this mostly on my other sites and usually the email address of .RU always gives them away to begin with. Most are cought by my spam filter.
DoFollow, to the best of my knowledge does not affect my pagerank but when great blogs like http://www.Chefpatrick.com decide to link back to me them my page rank does a tripple summersult
To your next question, does page rank matter to me? For my ego it does but for SkyDomains.com it does not since the blog is currently not monetized. Like they say ” The speed of the runaway camel counts for nothing”

This is all news to me. Thanks for the heads up on it. Interesting!

Thanks, finally, after reading hundreds of high tech articles written in guru language, I understand the NoFollow attribute! That is what attracted me to your Blog in the first place, it’s unorthodox, almost spiritual approach to Domaining. Now I am an addict because I learn some much more than just about Domaining.

  • @Gina,
That is so sweet. Thank you very much.
