How a big company responds to an offer to buy there domain

Have you ever wondered how to respond to domain offers ? You are not alone. I am about to share with you an email I received yesterday evening from a multi-million dollar company.  This information is still hot off the email server.

I had offered to buy if they will be willing to sell one of there intellectual properties. In this case a domain.

First you will read my letter which is nothing to brag about. I am the buyer (more…)

How I sold a domain I did not own

When most people read this title, they will instinctively think this is a brokerage deal. Well let me stop you right here. It was not a brokerage deal.  I told this story before in a forum right after it happened so if you have read it before, move on but if you have not, it might cheer you up and probably teach you a lesson or two in the process.

This story started when I decided to try my hand on then popular move of (more…)

Where the smart money is

I am writing this post from my PDA so bare with me. I am going to be calling similar post in future “micro posts”
Most domainers will not want to believe this. I am a domainer so this is a painfull micro post to make. I believe that for this moment, the smart money is in stocks not domains. GE stocks closed yesterday with a stock costing less than a GE flourecent light bulb. GM stock now cost less than a gallon of gas!

My View on ccTLD

Most of us have watched the video by the 3000 dollar a day domainer. One of the reasons I waited this long to post my views is because I really do not want to influence any one’s decision. However if you care to know what I personally think, then here it is.

Do I believe it is possible to make a lot of money from Country Code Top Level Domains (ccTLD). (more…)

Just updating on what I have been doing

Peace on to you fellow domainers. I just want to take a few minutes and update you on what I have been doing, where I have been and what I have been doing with my brands.

First and foremost, I am now a member of  Twitter. It is the new rave  in the domain world. I have known about Twitter for more than a  year now but felt it was just another waste of my time. (more…)

Domains as an Alternative Asset Class

I think we in the domain industry need to stop pitching domains as a marketing medium and start pitching it as an alternative asset class – as online real estate. If you approach a business and tell them that “ the right name is to a business what the right building or location is to an offline entity”, then  it’s easier for people to see things as valuable…
The problem with marketing is that it has always been a bit nebulous. By that I mean until online marketing and advertising, one couldn’t show EXACTLY the relationship between dollar-for-dollar spending on marketing and how much profit or increased sales have come in. (more…)

Is your website writing checks it can’t cash?

Here I go again. I am sure you are wondering what is this leading to. Well stay with me here. I recently had a site developed. Hearing dogs(dot)Com. I felt the need to add a “for sale sign” on the website so that people will know that the site is also for sale. It reads “HearingDogs(dot)com is for sale” Well well well, will you believe I have gotten a good couple of requests but not for the domain name and site but for hearing dogs. (more…)

A good name is better than great riches

The title of this post was lifted from Proverbs 22:1 NIV  “A good name is more desirable than great riches….” How true this is with our present economy. We are currently in a recession and every economist knows that to right this economy, the Government will try to infuse some funds into the system which will lead to a period of inflation. If everything goes well, they will be able to balance the economy with time otherwise your guess is as good as mine. (more…)

My Two Hand Regs from the Superbowl

This is by no means an analogy of the Superbowl. I believe most of the bloggers have already done a superb job and blogs like DotWeekly has already gone in depth into the area I am usually  most interested in which is the ads. (more…)
